Having to rely on glasses in order to see things properly can be extremely annoying, but it isn’t something that you have to suffer with. If you’ve never had contact lenses before, you may be unsure how the entire process of getting and using contact lenses works. The first thing that you’ll have to do when you’re thinking about getting contact lenses is to schedule a contact lens exam. When you have a regular eye exam, the focus on the exam is in making sure that your eyes are doing what they’re supposed to do. The doctor looks for any abnormalities and makes sure that you’re able to see perfectly. But if you want to have contact lenses, you need to make a different appointment at the office of your eye doctors.
When you make an appointment for a contact lens fitting, the entire purpose of the visit is to help you find the right lenses for your eyes. Every eye is different, and while some people do well with one company’s lenses, someone else may have a difficult time wearing the same type of lenses, which is why it’s necessary for your optometrist to try a number of different lenses sometimes in order to find the perfect lenses for your eyes. In many cases the optometrist will be able to get the right lenses on the first try, but if you have sensitive eyes, or a condition like an astigmatism, or you need bifocal contact lenses, it may take a few tries before you find the perfect contact lenses.
