Andrew Digby (1967)

Andrew Digby is a freelance trombonist and composer from Sheffield (England), currently resident in Freiburg (Germany).

He studied from 1986 &endash; 90 at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester and 1991 &endash; 95 composition with Mathias Spahlinger at the Musikhochschule Freiburg. In 1997 he received the second prize of the "Kompositionspreis der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart". He has received scholarships from the Akademie der Künste Berlin - Brandenburg (1998) and the Heinrich-Strobel-Stiftung of the SWR (2001). His music is performed (albeit infrequently) throughout Europe.

As trombonist he is a regular performer with many leading groups, including: ensemble recherche, Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin, Ensemble Modern, Apartment House; he also works as a soloist with composers as diverse as Peter Ablinger, Martin Bergande, Alan Hilario, Chris Newman, Horatiu Radulescu, Mathias Spahlinger and Karlheinz Stockhausen.
